MIAMI, Florida: Local media reported that one person was killed and five were injured when a small plane crashed on a bridge in Miami, hitting an SUV and bursting into flames.
Authorities said the plane crashed around 1pm into the Haulover Inlet Bridge on Collins Avenue between 96th and 163rd Street.
According to NBC News, the Federal Aviation Administration said three people were aboard the plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, when it lost power and crashed into an SUV carrying three people.
Miami-Dade Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta told NBC that two passengers were able to climb out of the burning wreckage of the plane, but a third, who died, was found in the plane after the flames were extinguished.
Zabaleta said one of the survivors was airlifted to a local hospital. The other was taken by ambulance to a second hospital, and a woman and two children, ages 2 and 6, who were in the SUV, were hospitalized but not seriously injured.
According to the FAA, the plane had left Fort Lauderdale International Airport and was headed to Key West International Airport.
